Which spacing should you choose?
8mm is the standard ruling on European A4 notebooks and exercise books — the right default for everyday writing and note-taking. 10mm gives noticeably more room and suits younger writers or anyone who prefers an open, airy page. 12mm is generous enough for early handwriting practice, headline drafting, or writing that needs to stay readable at a distance.
All three templates print edge-to-edge lines with no margin rule, which keeps them flexible: use them portrait or landscape, for text or for lists. If you want a margin line for corrections or annotations, use the lined paper with margin template instead.
A4 vs US Letter
A4 (210 × 297mm) is the standard paper size everywhere except North America, where US Letter (215.9 × 279.4mm) dominates. A4 is slightly narrower and taller, so an 8mm-ruled A4 page fits about 31 usable lines. Always print PDFs at 100% scale on the matching paper size so the ruling keeps its true measurements.
