About Wide Ruled Paper
Wide Ruled Paper is a free online lined-paper generator and a library of printable paper templates. Write on a page in your browser or print a blank sheet at its true size, with no sign-up and no watermark.
What this site is
The site has two parts. The online generator gives you a sheet of paper in your browser: choose the ruling, size and colors, type or draw on it, then print it or download it. The template library holds ready-made PDFs of the most common rulings, for when you only need a blank sheet. Both are free, need no account, and add no watermark or logo to your pages.
Our guides explain the measurements behind the paper: which line spacing suits your handwriting, how paper sizes differ, and how to print a template at the right size.
What you can do with it
- 12 patterns: lined, grid, graph, dot grid, Seyès, handwriting practice, Cornell notes, music staff, calligraphy, isometric, hexagon and blank.
- 7 paper sizes: A4, US Letter, Legal, A5, A3, B5 and Half Letter, in portrait or landscape.
- Line spacing: narrow, college, wide and extra wide presets, or any custom spacing from 4 to 25mm.
- Colors: six line colors and six paper colors, plus a custom color for each.
- Page layout: a margin line you can move from 8 to 60mm, a header line, Name / Subject / Date fields and page numbers.
- Writing: type in handwriting-style, print or typewriter fonts, draw freehand, and add images and stickers you can resize.
- Staff paper: single staff, grand staff or guitar TAB, with notes, rests, accidentals and time signatures.
- Output: print directly, or export a PDF or PNG of up to 20 pages.
- Seven languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Dutch.
How our templates are made
Every template is a vector PDF drawn from the standard measurements of its ruling, not a scan of a notebook page. The lines stay sharp at any printer resolution and the files are small. Most templates come in a US Letter and an A4 version, and all of them are meant to be printed at 100% scale ("Actual size"), so the spacing on paper matches the numbers below.

The graph, dot grid, Cornell and staff paper templates are drawn by the same code as the online generator, so a template and the page you open from it in the editor match.
How we keep the content accurate
The measurements on this site come from common notebook standards: the US narrow, college and wide rulings, the 8mm ruling of European A4 pads, and the French Seyès grid. When a page says how many lines, squares or dots fit on a sheet, that number is counted from the template file itself.
If you spot a measurement that looks wrong or a page that is out of date, please tell us through the contact page. We review corrections and update the page when needed.
Built for seven languages
The site is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Dutch. Each language has its own guides and template pages, written around the paper people use there: Seyès ruling in France, 8mm A4 ruling across most of Europe, and US Letter with college and wide ruling in North America. The generator starts on US Letter with inches in US English, and on A4 with millimeters in the other languages.
Your privacy
There is no account and nothing to sign up for. What you type or draw in the generator stays in your browser, saved on your own device so it is still there next time, and it is not uploaded to us. PDF and PNG exports are created in your browser too. The details are in our privacy policy.
